Tonight’s show begins with the familiar sounds of Big Top Chautauqua’s very own Blue Canvas Orchestra along with special musical guests Corey Carlson, Danielle Diamond, Randy Savage and Randy Sabien!

Closing out the show in tonight’s second half are local favorites Tin Can Gin!  Born and brewed upon the shores of Lake Superior near Duluth by childhood pals Harrison Olk and Trevor Marrin. Along with mandolinist Bryan Nelson, the trio created the trademark TCG tunes that are fan favorites to this very day. In the autumn of 2011 the group was summoned to the stage at their first gig as “Tin Can Gin”. As time passed the band added fiddle virtuoso Nori Perrine and Neil Krause on stand-up bass to round out the sound!  Tonight we welcome them back!

Long before they combined their voices, the three members of the Lone Bellow were singing on their own. Brian had been writing and recording as a solo artist for more than a decade, with three albums under his own name. Kanene and her husband Jason were living in Beijing, China, hosting open mic nights, playing at local clubs and teaching music lessons. Zach began writing songs in the wake of a family tragedy: After his wife was thrown from a horse, he spent days in the hospital at her bedside, bracing for the worst news. The journal he kept during this period would eventually become his first batch of songs as a solo artist. Happily, his wife made a full recovery.

Come sail the Great Lakes and the 7 Seas with Big Top Chautauqua’s Blue Canvas Orchestra. Shanties & Shipwrecks draws on the bountiful collection of sea shanties, sailing songs and rowdy sailors-in-port songs that have come down through time from those that roamed the great waters aboard vessels of wood with canvas sails. Of course not all of the wayfaring men returned to dry land. Hear and see their tales in song, story and big screen pictures. New in 2014, Shanties & Shipwrecks was an audience favorite — rousing and wildly entertaining! Go to www.bigtop.org for this season’s show schedule up at the tent.
