Tent Show Radio is pleased to welcome back to the Big Top stage Bayfield’s very own blues, folk, rock musician Corey Carlson and his Big City Band.  Corey was raised by his parents in an A-Frame ski chalet-style house at the foot of Mount Ashwabay Ski Hill ~ the summer home of Big Top Chautauqua where Corey attended many shows and acquired many great musical influences.  Corey is a regular at Big Top with his annual performance as well as guest performances with the Blue Canvas Orchestra.

Sit back and enjoy a special episode where we feature a couple of up and coming performers from just West of us in Duluth, Minnesota.  First up tonight Teague Alexy, a Duluth favorite singer and songwriter.

And

Tin Can Gin was born and brewed upon the shores of Lake Superior near Duluth by childhood pals Harrison Olk and Trevor Marrin. Along with mandolinist Bryan Nelson, the trio created the trademark TCG tunes that are fan favorites to this very day. In the autumn of 2011 the group was summoned to the stage at their first gig as “Tin Can Gin”. As time passed the band added fiddle virtuoso Nori Perrine and Neil Krause on stand-up bass to round out the Tin Can Gin sound.

That unique sound draws from each members musical upbringing. Harrison’s traditional bluegrass banjo, Trevor’s creative song writing and guitar work, Bryan’s fast folk pickin’ mandolin, Neil’s solid bass backing all wrapped and complimented with a sprinkle of Nori’s Celtic fiddle subtleties.

This past summer we were thrilled to see bluesy guitar man Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his electrifying band as they tore up the tent!

Shepherd was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and is “completely self-taught”, and does not read music. Growing up, Shepherd’s father was a local radio personality and some-time concert promoter, and had a vast collection of music. Shepherd got his first “guitar” at the age of three or four, when his grandmother purchased a series of several plastic guitars for him with S&H Green Stamps, which Shepherd has said he would “go through like candy”  Shepherd stated in a 2011 interview that he began playing guitar in earnest at age seven, about six months after meeting and being “pretty mesmerized” by Stevie Ray Vaughan, in June 1984, at one of his father’s promoted concerts. His self-taught method employed a process of learning one note at a time, playing and rewinding cassette tapes, using “a cheap Yamaha wanna-be Stratocaster…made out of plywood, basically”, and learning to play by following along with material from his father’s record collection.
