This Week on TSR: Corey Carlson

Tent Show Radio is pleased to welcome back to the Big Top stage Bayfield’s very own blues, folk, rock musician Corey Carlson and his Big City Band.  Corey was raised by his parents in an A-Frame ski chalet-style house at the foot of Mount Ashwabay Ski Hill ~ the summer home of Big Top Chautauqua where Corey attended many shows and acquired many great musical influences.  Corey is a regular at Big Top with his annual performance as well as guest performances with the Blue Canvas Orchestra.

This Week on Tent Show Radio: Greg Brown

Known for his personal and intimate concerts, Brown’s most revealing recordings are live. In addition to his release of “One Night”, his “Live from the Big Top”, recorded at the Big Top Chautauqua brings a glimpse of the power of Brown’s live shows. In 2007, he was nominated for a Folk Alliance Award in the category of Contemporary Artist of the Year.

Brown’s songwriting has been lauded by many, and his songs have been performed by Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Ani DiFranco, Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Iris DeMent and Joan Baez. Baez’s album Dark Chords on a Big Guitar takes its name from a line in Brown’s song “Rexroth’s Daughter”; that song and “Sleeper” are covered on the album.

Tirisis is a trio of sisters singing vintage harmonies inspired by ‘sister acts’ popular in the 1920s-1950s. Jessica (age 17), Jacqueline (age 13) and Jasmine (age 10) began listening to this type of music as very young children when their grandmother would sit them on the front porch and share her favorite Hit Parade records and V-discs. www.3sisters1voice.com[/one_half_last]

Barbara Jean grew up immersed in a world of music. Inheriting a musical legacy passed from grandmother to mother to daughter, she honed her early gift for the violin into a sharp eye for songwriting and a skilled hand as a multi-instrumentalist playing banjo, fiddle and viola. This Week on TSR: Tift Merritt & The Pines

Founded by Iowa natives David Huckfelt and Benson Ramsey, indie-roots band The Pines surprisingly actually met in Arizona, where they both lived in a Mexican barrio and first began playing together. Forming The Pines, they returned to the Midwest, moving to Minneapolis, a city that has launched many folk and rock acts from Bob Dylan to The Replacements to The Jayhawks.

Opening set by North Carolina native Tift Merritt.
